Forsa Study: One in four manufacturing companies considers itself at a competitive disadvantage compared to Chinese suppliers / 28 percent have already lost contracts to them / There are no signs of a widespread withdrawal from business in China

One-quarter of Germany’s manufacturing sector (25 percent) assesses its own competitive position against Chinese suppliers in the European market as inferior. Since the beginning of 2025, 28 percent have lost orders or bids to Chinese suppliers, and 13 percent have lost existing customers. At the same time, there are no signs of de-risking: For 36 percent of companies active in China, the Chinese sales market has actually gained in importance. These are the findings of the “German Economic Pulse 2026” study, conducted by the polling institute Forsa on behalf of the management consulting firm FTI-Andersch.
